On Oct 22, 2009, the Danish MoD announced that it was deferring a decision on the selection of a new fighter for the Air Force until 2010. The postponement is attributed to concerns over ongoing cost overruns in the F-35 Lightning II (JSF) program, in whose Systems Development and Demonstration (SDD) phase Copenhagen has been participating as a third-tier partner.
