US Military Grounds V-22 Ospreys Anew After Recent Near Crash (The Defense Post)
The US military has suspended all operations of its V-22 Osprey aircraft again following a near-crash in New Mexico late last month.
The decision, recommended by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), was made “out of an abundance of caution” after an Osprey was forced to make an emergency landing at Cannon Air Force Base on November 20, following the loss of an engine. No casualties were reported from the incident.
However, preliminary investigations revealed that the cause of the near crash had some similarities to last year’s incident off the coast of Japan, which killed eight US soldiers. (…)

Lessons from that fatal Japan crash may have saved lives in the latest emergency. While the investigation is not complete, the crew in the Cannon flight received similar warnings shortly after takeoff and lost an engine but was able to quickly put the Osprey back on the ground and survive. (…)
Je ne suis pas surpris de la résurgence de ce type d'avarie :aucune modification n’a été apportée étant donné que la cause des avaries n’a pas été clairement identifiée…
Les seuls changements opérés l'ont été au niveau de la formation des équipages et des équipes de maintenance, et apparemment cela a été utile cette fois-ci, en permettant à l'équipage d'éviter un crash sans doute mortel.
