The answer is obvious, the C-5 is much bigger than the C-17  :) 

But the C-17 combines the ability to carry large loadings and to take off from short runways, unlike to the C-5.

As my colleague D9, I should add that both the An-225 & the An 224 are  bigger than the C-5.
