The Dutch National Institute for Air and Space Flights repeated the USAF's calculations and arrived at a lower volume of 110 dB. People living near the airbase, as well as the provincial council, are worried about the discrepancies in the figures. 

Next month the Dutch lower house will again debate the purchase of a number of JSF fighters, or Lockheed F-35 II Lightings, as they are also known. The project is hotly disputed because the US are not sharing information about how much the planes will actually cost, which means the Netherlands could face a substantial financial risk. 

The noise pollution the fighter planes cause will also be subjected to the scrutiny of MPs. Several parties want the project to be scrapped, including governing Labour and the opposition Socialist Party.
