The government also gave a go-ahead to the five-year extension of an agreement with the USA on the logistics support to the air-to-air missiles used by Gripens and the subsonic Czech-made L-159 combat planes, Bartosova said. According to NATO plans, still unconfirmed by the Czech parliament, four Czech fighters are to protect air space above Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for several months next year. The Czech Republic received 100 pieces of live ammunition of the air-to-air AIM-9M Sidewinders type, 18 training missiles, the launching equipment and spare parts from the USA in 2002. The contract on the missiles included an agreement on a five-year logistics support under which the Czech personnel has been trained. The agreement expires at the end of this year. Last year, Americans proposed that it be extended. The proposal counts with the Czech Republic drawing of support set aside by the U.S. administration worth 2 to 2.5 million dollars. The original contract for the deliveries of the 27mm ammunition for the aircraft gun Mauser BK-27 of the Gripens was concluded by the Czech and German defence ministries in 2005. Out of the four addressed countries, Germany was the only to respond to the offer. The Czech military leased 14 Gripens from Sweden in 2005. http://www.ceskenoviny.cz/news/index_view.php?id=350439
